Six clubs compete in the league – Ely Runners, Haverhill Running Club, Saffron Striders, Newmarket Joggers, Cambridge & Coleridge Athletics Club, and Cambridge Triathlon Club.

When and where are the races?
Events take place one evening per month throughout the summer, with each club hosting one event. They are generally run on Thursday evenings starting at 7:30 pm.

How do we get to the races?
If you don’t have your own transport don’t let that put you off. There are always cars going from the leisure centre and someone is sure to have a spare seat and be happy to give you a lift.
Further details are normally posted on the ER Facebook Group Page and members will also receive an email with race details nearer the time.

What are the races like?
The KH races are both fun and competitive – there is always a friendly atmosphere and runners of all abilities are welcomed and well supported. The majority of KH participants are not super fast runners! There are usually 250-300 runners in each race, and numbers are rising every year.

Should I participate?
Absolutely, every runner wins a point for the club score, so we need as many runners as possible – it truly does not matter how fast or slow you are. There are additional points at stake for the fastest runners too.

There are three league titles up for grabs: Men’s, Women’s and Combined. It is a team event where every runner counts. This is how the scoring works:
The first 4 women and first 6 men for each club are awarded points according to finishing position so the lower their combined score the better. From that a point is deducted for every runner. For those of us outside the first 4 or 6 our run is equally valuable to the team whether we finish in 20, 30 or 40 minutes.

How do I enter?
The only rules are that all participants must be fully paid up members of Ely Runners (aged 14 or over on the day of the race) and wear a club vest. Entry is free.
If you don’t have a vest you can order one from the official club website.

How will I get my results?
After you cross the finish line you will be given a yellow token showing your overall finishing position. You need to hand this to the designated Ely Runner who is taking results and make sure she has your name too. Please don’t take the yellow token home! The stopwatch times are then matched with finishing positions, which are matched to your names! It all takes a few days, but the results are normally on the FB Page and this website.

Are there any medals or prizes?
There are no prizes in the individual races – it’s all about club points! At the end of the series, there are trophies for the male, female and overall winning clubs. There are also trophies for the top performing male and female runners across all races.

Additionally, there is a prize awarded by each club to one male and one female runner who have supported and embraced the spirit of the KH series (not necessarily the fastest!).
