Histon hosted its fourth Flaming June Half Marathon on June, 4. Seven Ely Runners competed in this multi-terrain event.
The race began in two waves. It was hot from the outset, sunny, a little cloud, and only a slight breeze.
The tracks were hard work, narrow and uneven, and the roads and guided busway seemed rather long and exposed. The course also has plenty of sudden and sharp twists and turns! Lots of locals came out to support runners – with shouts of encouragement sweets and the odd offer of a spray from hosepipes.
The race ended with a gruelling circuit of the recreation ground; so the apples, oranges, bananas, water and cereal bars were most welcome after the finish line.
All finishers were given a race t-shirt and a particularly nice bespoke medal.
The event was very well organised, with plenty of marshals and signs. Sadly, the organisers did not take club information to give to the chip timing company as a detail for results.
Official results: 1st, Alex Tate (Muddy Mucky Munkeys) 1:18:38; 1st female Rebecca Bunting (London Heathside) 1:24:12; Justin Smith 96th place 1:43:12 (PB); Amy Southward 102nd Place 1:43:46; Elaine Smith 171st place 1:50:55; Janet Smith 185th place 1:51:54; James Hall 321st place 2:03:59; Charlotte Nevison 337th place 2:06:13; James Lee 414th place 2:16:57.
